Creamed Soups - They aren't as bad as you may think!

Soups that have a creamy base have gotten a bad rap for years now. I'm here to tell you that they aren't as bad as you may think!

Most commercial brands of cream based soups contain a scant 100 calories or so per 1/2 cup.  Is salad a better entree choice? Let's see.

 

SALADS:

The trouble with salads is that those teensy calories in a base of shredded lettuce and chopped tomatoes can blow up to mega calories with just a few additions such as croutons, grated cheese, crackers and SUPER SALAD DRESSINGS.  Many varieties of salad dressings - usually those that are creamy, contain well over 150 calories per serving.

DIET TIPS FOR CREAM BASED SOUPS: Cream based soups can be skinnized by using skimmed milk rather than fatty milk or cream.

Butter substitutes can also replace most butters and margarine.

When dining out, I advise that you ask your waiter what ingredients are used in the soup you'd like to order.  It will give you good insight to its calorie content.

MORAL OF THE CREAMED SOUP DILEMMA: Perhaps the dieter should be more aware of creamy salad dressings that creamy soups.
