Diet Tip: Cows Have 4 Stomachs, People Have 1

Many times when we overeat, we are eating more like cows than humans - acting as if we own four stomachs instead of one. We poke the food inside of us like we are starving - as if we don't go as fast as we can, the food may run out.

Overstuffing the body with food is the number 1 reason for weight gain. The body is simply unable to burn a motherlode of food; what cannot be burned is stored as fat because the body doesn't use what it doesn't need.

 

The good news is that the stored fat may be burned as energy at a later date.  This occurs when the individual intakes less calories than their body needs.  Energy (stored calories in the form of fat) is then pulled from the cells and burned to produce energy.  

If you find that you are having trouble piling in more food than your body can use per day, here are some tips that might help slow down an overanxious eater:

circle12_red.gif  Ensure that meals are paced out through the day so that a ravenous feeling doesn't occur.

circle12_red.gif  When feeling ravenous, enjoy a salad or soup before the main course rather than an appetizer as soups and salads tend to contain less calories and fat than most appetizers.  Opt for light dressing and soups that are broth-based.  Kiss the cheese goodbye on those salads.

circle12_red.gif  While eating, practice chewing up the food that is being eaten and also enjoy what is being eaten  rather than being concerned about how much food you plan to eat.
