Walking is great for your overall health. Because walking is a form of aerobic exercise, you'll burn up calories, which means you'll shed off a few extra pounds and it's also great for your heart. Walking is much less problematic on your joints than running. For example, I've always wondered how my brother could stay so lean when he eats up so much junk food. He states he doesn't know but mentioned to me that he walks a lot each day. After he'd said that, it made sense. Walking is an excellent exercise so you don't have a good reason not to.

Establish a day-to-day walking routine, combine it with a good diet, and you should realize weight loss without any major effort. As walking is not a vigorous activity, it's better to keep motivated and stick with your exercise routine. You can jack up the intensity of your walking as you get used to walking on a regular basis. If you believe you could do more, go for it. Try walking faster or if you're feeling truly confident, you could jog. The next step will be to progress to even heavier activities.

There should be no way for you to not go walk for a short distance daily. Even if you are busy, you can take out 10 minutes to walk around the neighborhood, or if you have a gym membership, nip in and do half an hour on the treadmill at a slow pace to start off with.
